This session is to help UQ Higher Degree Research students to make progress with their thesis although you can work on anything you like. Every 30 minutes is broken down into 25 minutes of quiet writing, followed by a five-minute break. This method is known as the Pomodoro Technique. Please note you will need to bring your own writing materials and/or laptop.

This session will include:

  • 10:00-10:15am - Arrival - do not be late!
  • 10-15 - 12:15pm Writing time
  • 12:15-13:00 Lunch
  • 13:00 -15:00 Writing time

To ensure you get the most out of this session, we ask you to commit to attending the whole event at registration.

A light lunch is provided. There will be vegetarian options available and gluten-free options by request (please email the organisers if required). If you have special dietary requirements please feel free to bring your own food or drinks. Tea and coffee cannot be provided in this location, but cafe options are nearby. Feel free to BYO.

If you cannot attend please cancel a MINIMUM of 24 hours before for catering purposes. Your attendance or timely cancellation helps these events continue. Cancellation can be done through Eventbrite to ensure tickets can be made available for other attendees.

The ability to write well is critical to success in your research degree and a ‘top 10’ skill sought by employers. Learning the strategies for good writing will help you write efficiently.  Knowing not only what to write, but how to write it for a particular audience, will help you communicate your research effectively.
