Orientation is compulsory for all commencing HDR candidates, both domestic and international. If you have not been able to register, please come anyway and we will record your details at the door.

Remote students: If you have official remote student status, please email the Graduate School to advise.  You will be provided with instructions on how to access the Orientation session remotely.

About Orientation

Success in a higher degree by research program can be made easier if you get off to a good start and are aware of your rights and responsibiliites as a HDR student as well as the support and opportunities provided by the University to assist you to successful completion of your degree.  

Orientation includes important information about:

  • candidature, milestones, scholarship conditions, forms and guidance;
  • training and development opportunities which complement your HDR; 
  • support networks including the UQ Library, Association of Postgraduate Students and where to go if things go wrong.

The session also includes a presentation by UQ Alumni who share their tips for successful completion of a HDR and the opportunities for future employment, as well as an afternoon tea where you can meet your peers and/or talk to staff from the various support sections of the University.
