APR.Intern

UQ is partnering with APR.Intern to facilitate Placement opportunities with industry.  UQ PhD candidates wanting to apply for an APR.Intern Placement will need to receive sign off from their Principal Advisor and the Graduate School, prior to submitting an application. To arrange for this pre-approval requirement, please contact the student experiences coordinator at graduate school.

Candidates in an APR.Intern Placement will receive an APR.Intern stipend of $3000 per month. At UQ this will be awarded as a ‘top up’ to any existing scholarship stipend you may have. You will remain enrolled for the period of your placement and continue to consume load.  You should discuss with your Advisor how you will comfortably manage the workload of a placement alongside your candidature.

The APR.Intern project requires an Academic Mentor to also be assigned, usually this may be your thesis Principal Advisor. They receive a one-off fee of $5,500 for their participation, which is also recognised on the advisor's ARC Linkage track record.

UQ placements with APR.Intern need to adhere to the following guidelines.

  • They are usually not more than four months in duration.
  • Candidates must have passed the Confirmation Progress Review and their progress must be on track.
  • The APR.Intern project cannot be directly related to the candidate’s PhD project, and cannot be used in their thesis.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in their PhD during the Placement, and not be conferred before completion of the Placement.
  • All approvals must be in place before candidate can commence the Placement.
  • Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for approvals to be granted.

Successful candidates will enter discussions with APR.Intern, their Advisor, their Research Partnership Manager, and the industry partner, to fine tune the scope of the project before the final agreement is signed and endorsed by the Dean of the Graduate School. Candidates will be required to undertake a UQ Placement Assessment in addition to the APR.Intern brief requirements.
