This session (10.30 - 11.30) gives new international HDR students information that will assist in settling in to studying at UQ. It will also provide an outline of the support that is available for international students.

If you have not completed a compulsory Getting Started session (11.30 - 12.30), you will have the opportunity to do this after the information session.

You will also need to attend the afternoon Orientation session for all students. The registration link will be sent to you in due course.

Trouble registering? After completing a local induction with your HDR Liaison Officer (HLO), you will need to wait up to a week to be able to register. View our troubleshooting guide

About Orientation

Success in a higher degree by research program can be made easier if you get off to a good start and are aware of your rights and responsibiliites as a HDR student as well as the support and opportunities provided by the University to assist you to successful completion of your degree.

Orientation includes important information about:

  • candidature, milestones, scholarship conditions, forms and guidance;
  • training and development opportunities which complement your HDR;
  • support networks including the UQ Library, Association of Postgraduate Students and where to go if things go wrong.

The session also includes a presentation by UQ Alumni who share their tips for successful completion of a HDR and the opportunities for future employment, as well as an afternoon tea where you can meet your peers and/or talk to staff from the various support sections of the University.

Orientation is compulsory for all commencing HDR candidates, both domestic and international.
