If you are invited to become a mentee, you will be matched with a mentor who is experienced in the broad employment sectors in which you have interest in and, where possible, from a similar broad disciplinary background.

We recommend that you allocate two hours each fortnight throughout the duration of the program for preparation, meetings with your mentor, or review of documentation provided by your mentor.

You will be expected to be proactive in introducing yourself to your mentor and in organising meetings, recording completion of milestones within the Chronus platform, and instigating discussion of your goals for the program.

This is an opportunity to gain insights and perspective from an experienced profession in one of the following broad employment sectors:

  • Consultancy
  • Government
  • Higher education (academic and/or professional)
  • Industry/R&D
  • Not-for-profit/NGO
  • Self-employed
  • Start-up

It is not appropriate to use the mentoring relationship to ask for assistance with your research or to seek employment or a placement with your mentor (or their employing organisation).

How to get involved

Expressions of interest (EOI) will be accepted from those who:

  • Are actively enrolled in a UQ higher degree by research (HDR) program
  • Have successfully completed the confirmation milestone
  • Do not have any overdue milestones
  • Do not have a thesis submission date that falls during the mentoring program's dates
  • Are prepared to commit to the program

Further information for HDR candidates regarding the EOI process and timelines will be advertised in late 2020 via this website and the UQ Graduate School HDR candidate newsletter.
