Queensland Museum Network CEO Dr Jim Thompson was officially appointed on 13 December 2018. Dr Thompson began at Queensland Museum in September 2017 and received a public service medal (PSM) for outstanding public service in the area of biosecurity for Queensland in 2018.

Dr Thompson has an extensive and distinguished career and has performed a range of leadership roles throughout Australia in areas such as research, policy and the public sector. He has a PhD in Wildlife Management, a Master of Resource Science and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Zoology/Animal Biology. Dr Thompson was formerly the Chief Biosecurity Officer at Biosecurity Queensland since 2011.
