Anglicare Southern Queensland is offering the opportunity for a PhD candidate to work on the project ‘Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work in the Human Services’ to develop their research and transferable skills through a HDR Placement.
Intended start date: To be determined
Total days: 60 working days
Location: Anglicare Southern Queensland, 31 Duncan St Fortitude Valley. The placement may be undertaken in a face-to-face, virtual or a blended approach.
If successfully selected by Anglicare for the placement opportunity, the candidate must follow the application process for an approved HDR placement.

This placement is unpaid; however, if you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be able to receive one of the Graduate Research School Scholarships. Please note that all PhD students are eligible to apply for this placement, regardless of their scholarship eligibility.
About the project
The aim of the project is to better understand how Artificial Intelligence (AI) particularly Generative AI (GenAI) is reshaping work and workforce capability in the human services sector. This will inform Anglicare’s understanding of what GenAI might mean for the current and future workforce, organisational capability and service delivery.
You will translate core literature about GenAI and digitalisation in the human services (including the aged care and community support sectors), paying specific attention to the short-term and long-term opportunities, limitations, and risks associated with the use of GenAI. Through an exploration of specific work-based tasks, you will examine what routine tasks technology may be able to undertake and what that means for organisational capability over time.
This project builds on an Anglicare-based research project, the Building a Resilient and Sustainable Workforce for the Future, in collaboration with Centre for Policy Futures at The University of Queensland.
Key project tasks will include writing a preliminary report about the potential uses and limitations of Gen AI at Anglicare for Anglicare’s Executive Leadership team. As well as consultation with Anglicare staff in the Corporate Services portfolio, especially within Organisation Development and Talent team, and across the organisation as directed by the internship industry supervisor.
