In this workshop, we’ll explore the practical and technical aspects of working with large-scale text data in academic research. Whether your work involves qualitative analysis (e.g., thematic coding, discourse analysis) or quantitative approaches (e.g., sentiment analysis, topic modelling), this workshop will provide hands-on skills to help you process and extract insights from unstructured textual data using AI and machine learning tools. You’ll learn how to clean, structure, and prepare text data for analysis, and apply techniques to analyse large corpora using Python and key NLP libraries. This is a technical but accessible session. If you're looking to integrate large-scale text analysis into your thesis or publications, this session is for you.

Presented by Dr Morteza Namvar, Senior Lecturer at the UQ Business School.

About Research software and programming

At UQ, there are many research tools available at your disposal. Preview the available research software and programming languages and learn the pros and cons of each. Investigate how to use them to effectively analyse, manipulate, and visualise your research data.
